About our Detroit Lions news

NewsNow's in-depth coverage of the Detroit Lions serves as your one-stop source for the latest updates, expert analyses, and insider takes. Whether it's regular-season clashes or draft day selections, veteran leadership or emerging talent, coaching transitions or front-office developments, we provide detailed insights into every facet of the Lions' organization.

The Lions were founded in 1930 as the Portsmouth Spartans, a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). They joined the NFL in 1934, when they moved to Detroit and changed their name to the Lions, in reference to the city's baseball team, the Detroit Tigers.

The Lions have won four NFL championships, all before the Super Bowl era. They won their first title in 1935, defeating the New York Giants. They repeated as champions in 1952, 1953, and 1957, beating the Cleveland Browns each time.

The Lions have also won four conference championships and eight division titles. They have made 18 playoff appearances, but have never reached the Super Bowl. They hold the record for the longest postseason win drought in NFL history, having not won a playoff game since 1991.

The Lions are currently coached by Dan Campbell, who was hired in 2021. The team is led by quarterback Jared Goff, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. The team finished with a 3-13-1 record in 2022 and missed the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.
