About our 2024 Taiwanese Presidential Election news

Latest news on the 2024 Taiwanese presidential election, which is scheduled to be held on 13 January 2024, with the winner to be inaugurated on 20 May 2024.

The incumbent President Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who was reelected in 2020, is ineligible to seek a third term. The main candidates are Lai Ching-te of the DPP, Hou Yu-ih of the Kuomintang (KMT), and Ko Wen-je of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP).

Lai is the current Vice President and a former public health expert and mayor of Tainan. He is expected to continue Tsai's policies of strengthening Taiwan's international ties and resisting China's pressure. Hou is the current mayor of New Taipei and a former police officer. He is seen as a moderate in the KMT, which advocates for friendlier ties with China but opposes unification.
