Kosovo, officially the Republic of Kosovo, is a country in Southeast Europe with partial diplomatic recognition. It lies landlocked in the centre of the Balkans and shares borders with with Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008 and has since gained diplomatic recognition as a sovereign state by 101 member states of the United Nations. Although Serbia does not officially recognise Kosovo as a sovereign state and continues to claim it as its constituent, it accepts the governing authority of the Kosovo institutions as a part of the 2013 Brussels Agreement.
The region has a population predominantly consisting of Albanians, with significant minorities including Serbs and Bosniaks. Kosovo is characterised by its diverse cultural heritage, with influences from Ottoman, Byzantine, and Roman civilisations evident in its architecture, cuisine, and traditions.
