About our Langya Virus news
Latest news on the Langya virus, a new virus suspected to have caused infections in 35 people in China over roughly a two-year period.
Not much is known about this new virus, which is also known as Langya henipavirus or LayV for short. A key mystery is whether the virus spreads from human to human.
Most of the symptoms reported were mild, including fever, cough, fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle aches, nausea and headache, but a few of the people affected presented more serious complications, such as pneumonia or abnormalities in liver and kidney function.
Investigations so far suggest humans are likely to have caught the virus from wild shrews.
