Maryland is considered a blue state. In the federal government, Maryland is represented by two U.S. Senators and eight U.S. Representatives. Both Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen are Democrats. Of the eight Representatives, seven are Democrats and one is a Republican. Maryland has a Democrat governor, Wes Moore, who was elected in 2022. The state legislature is also controlled by the Democrats, who have majorities in both chambers.
