About our Swine Flu news

Latest news on swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, a respiratory disease that originated in pigs but can infect humans. It first gained global attention during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, which caused widespread illness and led to numerous preventive measures worldwide. The symptoms of swine flu in humans are similar to those of regular seasonal influenza, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue. It spreads primarily through respiratory droplets from coughs and sneezes.

Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent swine flu, along with standard flu prevention measures like frequent handwashing and avoiding close contact with sick individuals. Antiviral drugs are available for treatment and can reduce the severity and duration of illness if taken early.

As of November 2023, the UK has reported its first human case of a different swine flu strain, H1N2. This detection by the UK Health Security Agency marks a notable development, as this strain is very similar to the one circulating in pigs. The person infected in the UK displayed mild respiratory symptoms. This case represents a rare instance of the virus jumping from pigs to humans, underlining the importance of monitoring and managing the spread of such viruses to prevent potential outbreaks.
