The powers of the Security Council include establishing peacekeeping operations, enacting international sanctions, and authorising military action.
The Security Council is comprised of 15 members, of which 5 are permanent: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The Security Council has been involved in number of major military operations including the Korean War and the Congo Crisis, as well as peacekeeping missions in Kuwait, Cambodia, Cyprus and Rwanda.
